Walk around the St Paul’s area and the Millennium Bridge in London, and you will not fail to notice a series of gigantic golden words such as the one depicted here.
I assumed they would spell out something like “Who are you going to meet?” if you managed to encounter them in the right order. I looked it up, and it turns out that the words form a sentence form the novel called Jacob’s Room, by Virginia Woolf:
I like the idea of coming across installations like this. We have become so used to everything being functional, it’s nice to come across things which appear to have no economic purpose whatsoever. And this is made even more delicious by the fact that it’s in the City of London, the financial centre of the country!
