The shortlisted books for this year’s ALCS Educational Writers Awards were as wonderful as ever. I was able to look through them at the ceremony.
Hockney and Gayford, A History of Pictures, is very sumptuous, combining photos, drawings and text.
Great Adventurers, the winner, is lovely and colourful as well as informative.
All Birds Have Anxiety might be a good way of helping children recognise and deal with worry, so it would be a good one to investigate if you’re concerned with children’s well-being as a parent or teacher.
The 2019 Month by Month Nature Almanac looks very exciting, with things to look out for and do at various times of the year.
Suffragettes and the Fight for the Vote is very informative, and is illustrated with cartoons, photos of people and posters.
MR SHAHA’S RECIPES FOR WONDER: Adventures in Science Round the Kitchen Table, makes everyday science accessible.
Please note that I had only a cursory glance at these books, so if you’re thinking of buying them: caveat emptor! I am hoping to be able to review some or all of them though.
